Gold & Straw for kids A surprising invitation took me back to my performance from 2004. It was difficult to make room for gold during a black war, but I was happy to see that this work was still needed. I traveled back in time to the woman that I was twenty years ago, recalled my body and gestures, and then returned to my current self. Originally, the action was a closed, glittering circle of endless labor, straw after straw being gilded in front of the audience. I knew that this time it had to be different, but I could not figure out how different. In real time, the right collaboration took shape, with each participant from the audience choosing a straw and handing it to me to be gilded in our shared moment. I kept all straws in the growing pile of moments. .
